Pier Paolo Pandolfi is an accomplished cancer researcher currently living in Reno, Nevada. He has enjoyed an exciting career striving to find better treatments for cancer patients and improve outcomes. Pier Paolo was born in Rome, Italy, and spent many of his educational years there. He enjoys dual citizenship in Italy and the United States and travels often.
Early in his career, Pier Paolo Pandolfi attended the University of Perugia, Italy, where he earned both his M.D. and his Ph.D. Years later, he also received an honorary master’s degree from Harvard Medical School. Since then, he has been immersed in the medical field, helping care for patients and educating medical students through a variety of appointments. He worked as an Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, NY, from 1994 until 2007. From then on, he has enjoyed several academic appointments that have allowed him to pursue research and help teach students. He has worked with the University of Turin, Harvard Medical School, Cornell University, and more. Currently, Pier Paolo is the Scientific Director and Principle Senior Scientist at the William N. Pennigton Cancer Institute, a part of the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Over the years, Pier Paolo Pandolfi’s work has been recognized extensively. He has served on numerous boards, been a keynote speaker at multiple conferences, and has received many different awards for his work. These include the CORE Oncology Award, the Amy Robach Award from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation Creativity Award. He is currently a member of the American Cancer Society Eastern New England Council of Advisors and the AACR-Pezcoller Foundation Standing Scientific Committee. Additionally, he sits on editorial boards for Cancer Discovery, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, and Molecular Oncology.
Throughout his career, Pier Paolo Pandolfi’s career has been dedicated to finding a possible cure for cancer. In the process, he has filed several patents and secured multiple research grants. He has two active grants currently funding research projects into genetics and cancer treatments. Having participated extensively in research efforts, Pier Paolo has been cited in over 500 articles published in a wide variety of medical journals.
One of Pier Paolo Pandolfi’s greatest achievements has been his advancements in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia. Thanks to his research, the disease is now considered a curable form of cancer. This work is continuing to expand with possible treatments for other cancers in the works.
